New Windows Cut Our Heating Bill by a Third

Our bungalow was built in 1978 and still had most of its original single-pane aluminum windows. Every winter, you could feel the cold radiating off the glass and see condensation — sometimes frost — on the inside of the frames. Our gas bills were brutal.

I posted on NeedReno for a full window replacement. The quotes came back ranging from $12,800 to $21,000 for 14 windows. The spread was explained by the difference between double-glazed and triple-glazed units — a meaningful difference in Winnipeg.

We chose Northern View Windows and went with triple-glazed casement windows throughout. The total was $18,400 including installation, capping, and all interior trim work.

The installation took three days for a crew of three. They worked room by room and left each room clean before moving to the next. Every window is perfect — no gaps, no drafts, and the interior trim is cleaner than what we had before.

The results after one full winter: our natural gas bill dropped from an average of $280/month to $185/month during heating season. That's roughly $570 in annual savings. The windows will pay for themselves in about 12 years, but the comfort improvement is immediate and priceless.

The cold is just... gone. You can sit next to a window in January without feeling it.
